University College London UCL is one of the leading research universities in the world and is home to 39,000 students and manages a vast estate that includes 26 halls of residence and 6000 beds that requires both preventative and reactive maintenance. A high percentage of the campus is situated between Tottenham Court Road, Euston and Camden, with an estimated 180 buildings. Alpine Works was awarded the contract for a 5 Year fixed term planned preventative maintenance contract of emergency lighting, general lighting, lighting control systems and convector heating systems throughout UCL’s complete estates portfolio to include a separate reactive repair team. UCL instructed Alpine Works to repair automatic emergency lighting systems in 63 buildings and to ensure that the existing systems would meet their legal obligations. Alpine Works have delivered a multitude of projects throughout the UCL estate including the recently refurbished Bloomsbury Theatre. We were nominated to install and maintain a unique, bespoke comprehensive electrical installation including complex specialist lighting systems and controls. We installed new lighting throughout the theatre, main auditorium and back of house which also included mood lighting throughout bars and dressing rooms along with the mandatory emergency lighting. A further component in the project was the installation of a new fire alarm, security systems, mains distribution, power and data systems.
