Electrical infrastructure in CT scanner and Resuscitation Unit

Location: East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, Surrey

Scope of project

Alpine Works was contracted to carry out the complete electrical installation of the CT Scanner and the adjacent Resuscitation unit at East Surrey Hospital. The scope of works was both complex and comprehensive and included the following:

New sub-distribution boards with metering and IPS units. We also installed the electrical supply for the mechanical plant and clinical equipment, including the CT scanner. Small power including mounted sockets, under desk infrastructure and specialist dado trunking. Provision of Isolated power system circuits to the bedhead units and pendants into the resuscitation bays and CT Scanner Room. The scope of works also included new modular design and an IP Nurse call system to all areas. The installation of horizontal and vertical bed head trunking with patient to staff call buttons and handsets with socket and medical gas outlets. New fire alarms and smoke detection were installed to integrate to the existing hospital systems. Main and task lighting were also installed alongside photocells, movement sensors, daylight controls and emergency lighting.

Challenges

One of the key objectives of the project was to ensure that the installations did not interfere with the operations of the auxiliary units of this busy hospital. The coordination and installation of the different types of equipment including life safety was essential to the timing of the programme and commissioning the specialist equipment.
