Kings College London – Refurbishment of Student Union

Project value:  c.£300,000

Summary of works:

Alpine Works were employed to refurbish the existing Student Union facilities at Kings College London. The project was design and build and with close liaison with the Architects and Student Union. The project involved identifying existing services and remodelling the existing services to suit the new layouts. This included a new bar and nightclub, new Kitchens and Social area for Students to relax in. Our main challenge was the lighting which was LED and had to have intelligent control through a Dali System.  We used scene setting, presence/absence controls and daylight dimming to achieve the required light levels mood settings. LED lighting was used and this included emergency fittings. The emergency fittings were part of the intelligent lighting control system which was linked to an existing network within the College for monitoring. Throughout the project, the lighting manufacturer were instrumental in helping us achieve a perfect delivered product.
